Looking to the environment, and referencing the woods

Seeking design inspiration from the natural environment of beach, sand dunes and woods surrounding the home, award winning interior designer Sonja Hawkins created a stunning interior space for her design of the Te Arai Beach House.

Described by architect and co-founder of Fearon Hay, Tim Hay - ‘the interiors were vital to complementing and balancing the simplicity and durability of the architecture’.

Tréology was pleased to design and craft the block coffee table situated in the living space. Handcrafted from a solid macrocarpa wooden block with crafted wooden butterfly joiners, the coffee table celebrates and embraces the wabi-sabi effect of this natural wood with a simple and timeless, sustainable design.

The key was looking to the environment and referencing the woods. I looked for a natural, earthy feel, constantly referencing the cabin [combined with the] farmhouse vernacular that the architects formed as the brief for the interiors.
