The design brief from WSP Architecture was for Tréology to design a series of seating areas that evoked feelings of manaakitangi (hospitality and welcoming) for the guests arriving, waiting and leaving the terminals, and a sense of belonging. Connecting people to nature.
The two terminals were to have similar aesthetics and interior themes, but be uniquely identified by their colour palettes specific to the region they are based.
Design considerations:
Diversity of seating solutions - suitable for families, business people, young, elderly.
Feature seating solution.
Biophilic design
Integrating planting into seating, playful, sustainable timbers
Adjustable and timeless design solution that is applicable to both terminals
