Windswept Light

Description

Windswept is a sculptured ambient floor lamp inspired by our observations of windswept tress along the hilltop walking tracks of Banks Peninsula, New Zealand, and a nod to the modernist master sculptor Constantin Brâncuși.

Gale force air streams blast unobstructed across the Southern Ocean until they collide into the New Zealand landmass. The wind is so persistent and powerful that trees are perpetually warped and twisted into windswept shapes.

On this trek we observed a pair of windswept trees, standing as sentinels, testament to the extreme forces of nature. And so, began our design journey to capture this beautiful tension in an ambient floor lamp sculpture.

The sculpted wooden form is made from ancient rimu wood (a New Zealand native tree). This sustainable timber, naturally felled by nature, has been air-dried for over 10 years.

The faceted stone base is crafted from Timaru bluestone (a local basalt rock), acknowledging the volcanic history of our land. Together, they are our contemporary visualization of nature’s force on the New Zealand landscape through functional art.

The Floor lamp is finished with hand rubbed, low V.O.C., natural plant oils to bring the stunning grain to life. The LED light is operated by a RF wireless remote control and is dimmable.
