Skyline Table

Description

The Skyline table is made from an ancient matai tree (a native timber of New Zealand) that has fallen naturally into rivers and preserved for hundreds of years under sediment layers before natural water erosion exposes them.

We rescue these trees and continue their journey to become a cherished piece of functional art. The natural organic live edge slab is finished with hand rubbed natural plant oils bringing the gorgeous grain to life.  This beautiful slab sits on a base, hand crafted out of Timaru bluestone (basalt rock) and supported by an aged, blackened steel stretcher rail.

Created by the eruptions of Mt Horrible to the west of Timaru, a town in the South Island of New Zealand, each piece of the Timaru bluestone is beautiful and unique. This blue/grey vesicular basalt rock has distinct veins that are not found anywhere else in New Zealand.   The faceted stone base acknowledges the volcanic history of our land. Together with the slab top, they are our contemporary visualization of nature’s force on the New Zealand landscape through functional art.
