Umber Table - Steel Base

Description

The subtle expression of natural beauty and craftsmanship, the Umber dining table was created by taking a trapezoid form and establishing juxtapositions with the base and top elements.

The Umber table is made from New Zealand’s 40,000-year-old ancient swamp kauri. Prehistoric kauri trees were buried under a peat swamp by an unexplained act of nature at the end of the last Ice Age, the trees have survived the centuries underground, sealed in an airtight environment that has preserved the timber in perfect condition.

This sustainable timber, naturally felled by nature, is preserved for thousands of years under peat sediment layers before they are extracted and continue their journey to become a cherished piece of art. The ancient swamp kauri has been carbon dated at over 40,000 years old. The wood is finished with a hand rubbed, low V.O.C., natural plant oils to bring the stunning grain to life.

The trees’ location co-ordinates are inscribed on a stainless steel Tréology tag and attached to the table, connecting the owner to a unique piece of New Zealand nature.

Handmade in Christchurch, New Zealand.
